Grindr is committed to creating a safe and authentic environment where diversity, mutual respect, and sex-positivity thrive. Millions of people rely on us to offer a safe place to connect with the community, and we accordingly take moderation very seriously.
First, if your account has been banned and you had an active subscription, you should cancel it so you’re not charged again. To read more about how to cancel, see our subscription help pages here.
Being banned
If your Grindr account was banned, then it most likely means you violated our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
We’re talking about (but not limited to):
- Illegal Activity (such as selling drugs or sexual solicitation)
- Spam or advertising
- Harassment or Bullying
- Hate Speech or Discrimination
- Nudity or Pornography
- Underage Users
- Impersonation
We use a mix of automated moderation and human review at Grindr. You may be warned in the app before your account is banned. We also may remove profile text or images instead of banning a profile to give someone a second chance before banning. Banning is a last resort and we don’t like to do it!
Grindr is for personal use only
All forms of advertising and commercial use are prohibited on Grindr, and it is for personal use only. We do not allow offers to buy or sell any kind of goods or service on our platform.
The passing of the Stop Enabling Sex Trafficking Act (SESTA/FOSTA) means that companies can be held criminally liable (and even shut down entirely) if they are found to be facilitating sex work on their platforms. For this reason, we have to be especially careful to remove any content potentially in violation of this act: offers to buy or sell sex, including references to escorting, massage services, sugar daddy/baby arrangements, people who are looking for "gen"/generous, etc.
Appealing a ban
If you think you were banned incorrectly then you can submit a ban appeal here. Your appeal will be reviewed and we will let you know if we require any additional information. The review will be conducted by a trained team member who was not involved in the initial decision to ban your profile.
We do require all ban appeals to be through this form, so if you email us about your ban, we will redirect you to fill out the form.
Preventing a ban
Our Community Guidelines are here to keep Grindr safe, authentic, and welcoming for everyone. When in doubt, just play nice and you'll be good to go.
Be authentic. Don't sell and/or advertise services. Don't spam. Be yourself on the app, not someone else. Finally, don't overthink it. If something is illegal offline, don't do it on Grindr.
Remember that you are fully responsible for all activity made on your account, and if suspensions or bans are incurred we will not be able to modify them.
