What is Grindr's policy regarding sexual violence and other conduct that threatens public or personal safety?
At Grindr, the safety of our users is a top priority. We are committed to creating a platform where people can connect with others in a respectful, safe, and inclusive environment.
Grindr takes a multi-layered approach to user safety. We respond to valid law enforcement requests in line with applicable laws. Just as importantly, we invest in proactive safety tools, user education, and clear Community Guidelines to help prevent harm before it happens and support a safer experience for everyone on the platform.Grindr’s Community Guidelines prohibit violence in any form, whether online or offline, including threats, coercion, entrapment, or behavior that puts others’ safety at risk.
Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without that person's consent violates Grindr's Community Guidelines, is against the law, and may result in criminal prosecution or civil liability.
How can I report conduct or content that I think violates Grindr's guidelines?
If you see something that doesn’t feel right, you can report it directly through the in-app reporting feature — available from profiles, chats, and certain feature tabs. You can also reach out to our team by submitting a request here.
Please note that submitting false reports for malicious, biased, or other illegitimate reasons is a violation of our Community Guidelines and may result in action being taken against your account.
Does Grindr verify users' identities or run criminal background checks?
Grindr does not currently conduct criminal or other background screenings of our users. However, Grindr reserves the right to conduct such screenings (including checks against publicly available records, such as sex offender registries) where permitted by law and when appropriate.
If a user’s profile is reported as fake or impersonating someone (a "catfish"), we may ask the user to verify their identity using secure methods in order to maintain access to their profile.
Grindr is an adults-only (18+) platform. All users must confirm that they are at least 18 years of age before accessing the platform. Grindr takes age limits very seriously, and accounts suspected of being underage are immediately blocked.
No online verification or background screening process is foolproof, and cannot guarantee that another person is safe. We encourage users to exercise caution when interacting with new people online or in-person. For additional guidance, check out our Safety Tips.
What happens to a user who is reported for violating the rules?
We take all reports of misconduct seriously. Our goal is to support a safer community, and that includes educating users when possible. In some cases, we may issue warnings, remove content, or block certain harmful language from being used—especially for first-time or less severe violations.
For more serious behavior or repeated offenses, we take stronger action, including account bans or even device bans, depending on the nature of the violation.
To protect user privacy and safety, we limit the details we share about how reports are handled or what actions were taken. For more on how Grindr moderates profiles and content: see here.
Can I appeal if my account is suspended or banned?
Yes. If you believe your account was banned in error, you can submit an appeal through the in-app support flow or by contacting us here. All appeals are reviewed by our support agents to ensure appropriate action was taken.
When a report about a user's misconduct is received, do you notify the user's matches?
Grindr does not currently notify users who have previously interacted with a reported account. We encourage all users to take advantage of the in-app blocking and reporting tools to protect themselves and flag concerning behavior.
As outlined in our Privacy Policy, we only disclose a user's account information in limited circumstances, such as in response to a lawful subpoena, warrant or where otherwise required by law.
