Looking to meet up? Right Now helps you signal to nearby people that you're available and ready to connect.
When you start a Right Now session, you can share an optional status describing what you're in the mood for, add a photo, indicate whether you're willing to host, and choose whether to appear on the Right Now Map (where available). Your post will appear in the Right Now Feed and can be seen by other users who are browsing Right Now.
Right Now sessions last for 1 hour and are designed to help you connect with people who are looking for the same thing, right now.
How Right Now Works
When you start a Right Now session:
- A Right Now indicator (purple droplets) appears on your profile
- Your profile becomes visible in Right Now experiences, including the Right Now Feed, Map, and Cascade filters
- Your optional status appears on your profile and in the Right Now Feed
- Your session lasts for 1 hour
- Your post expires automatically when the session ends
Right Now posts are temporary and cannot be recovered once they expire.
Starting a Right Now Session
Your free sessions reset every Friday at 5:00 PM (local time). You can view your remaining sessions from the app's side menu.
Once you've used your free sessions, you can purchase additional Right Now sessions.
To start a session:
- Tap the Right Now button from the Grid, Feed, or Map
- Optionally add a status describing what you're looking for
- Optionally add a photo
- Indicate whether you're willing to host
- Choose whether to appear on the Right Now Map (where available)
- Select Discreet if you'd prefer to post without linking your profile
- Start your session
Your session begins immediately. You'll receive an in-app notification once your content has been approved and your post is live.
All statuses and photos must comply with Grindr's Community Guidelines and may be reviewed by our moderation team before appearing publicly.
Photos in Right Now
You may add a photo to your Right Now post to help others understand what you're looking for.
Explicit Photos
In select countries, users can upload nude photos as part of a Right Now post.
Explicit photo uploads are currently available in:
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- United States
Explicit photos must follow our Community Guidelines and may not:
- Include more than one person
- Depict sexual activity or sexual acts
- Contain prohibited content under our policies
All photos will go through to moderation review before becoming visible in the app.
Discreet Posts
Discreet Posts allow you to participate in Right Now without displaying your Grindr profile alongside your post.
When you create a Discreet Post:
- Your Right Now post is not linked to your Grindr profile
- Other users cannot open your profile from the post
- Your profile does not display that you're participating in Right Now
- Users must send a chat request instead of messaging you directly
How Chat Requests Work
If someone is interested in your Discreet Post:
- They send a chat request
- You can accept or decline the request
- If accepted, a conversation begins through your Grindr profile
Important Information About Discreet Posts
Discreet does not mean anonymous.
Discreet only affects how your Right Now post is displayed. Viewing profiles and chatting continue to occur through your Grindr profile once a chat request is accepted.
All Community Guidelines remain in effect, and Discreet Posts can still be reported and reviewed.
Finding Other Right Now Users
Right Now Feed
The Right Now Feed displays active Right Now posts from nearby users:
- The Xtra subscription allows you to view up to 40 visible profiles in the “Right Now” feed.
- The Unlimited subscription allows you to view up to 100 visible profiles in the “Right Now” feed.
You can filter the Feed by:
- Hosting status
- Age
- Position
Tap a post to start a conversation or view additional details.
Right Now Map
The Right Now Map is currently available in select geographic areas.
The Right Now Map displays users who:
- Are currently in a Right Now session
- Have chosen to appear on the map
Users can select how precisely their location is displayed. The map can also be filtered by hosting status, age, and position.
Right Now Profiles on the Grid
Profiles currently participating in Right Now display a purple droplets indicator and Right Now label on the Grid.
If a user has added a status, it will be visible when viewing their profile.
Updating Your Right Now Session
You can update your Right Now post at any time during an active session.
To make changes:
- Open Right Now from the Grid, Feed, or Map
- Edit your status, photo, hosting preference, or map visibility settings
- Save your changes
Updated statuses and photos may require moderation review before they become visible.
Ending a Right Now Session
You can turn off your Right Now visibility before your session ends.
Doing so removes your Right Now indicator and any associated status from public view.
Please note:
- The session timer continues running
- Sessions cannot be paused
- Remaining time cannot be extended
- A new session requires another free or paid Right Now session
Right Now + Boost
Right Now + Boost combines a Right Now session with a Boost, helping increase your visibility while you're actively looking to connect.
When using Right Now + Boost:
- Your profile is boosted to nearby users
- Your Right Now session runs normally
- You'll see the Right Now timer during the session
- The standard Boost Overview screen is not shown
