Signal that you’re looking for fun with Right Now: an add-on letting you to flag to the rest of your grid that you’re ready to meet up.
Right Now allows you to post an optional status on your profile describing exactly what you’re in the mood for. This status will be posted to the public Right Now Feed, and also shown to anyone who views your profile for the next 1 hour.
Everyone using Grindr can see if a profile is looking for Right Now (either via the Right Now filter on the main grid, or from the Right Now feed or map), but only those who have started a Right Now session will be able to post a status or appear in these filter results.
When you’re ready to meet up for some fun, there’s no time like Right Now.
How to enable Right Now
You can start a Right Now session up to 2 times a week for free. Your allotment of free sessions resets every Friday at 5:00 PM (your local time). You can check how many free Right Now sessions you have left from the side menu in the app. Once you’ve used your free sessions, you can create additional sessions for a small fee.
To use Right Now:
-
Tap on the Right Now button at the bottom of your grid or the Right Now Feed or Map to start a Right now session. You can also tap on your profile photo icon to open the side menu, then tap on the Right Now button. If you like, you can:
- Add a status describing what you’re in the mood for (or, skip it). As always, be mindful of what personal information you post.
- Add a photo, as long as it adheres to our Community Guidelines.
- Tap the “house” icon to indicate to other profiles that you’re willing to host
-
Select whether you want to be shown on the Right Now Map, and if so, how precise your location will be. (may not be available in your city yet)
- If you do not want to be shown on the map, you can toggle off that option on the Right Now post editor screen.
- If you’ve used your free sessions already, you’ll need to complete the purchase process to start a paid Right Now session.
- Get to looking!
After starting a Right Now session, a countdown timer will appear, and your 1 hour session will begin immediately. You’ll receive an in-app notification once your content has been approved and your post is live. A Right Now indicator (a purple “droplets” emoji) will appear on your profile, indicating to other people that you’re looking. Nearby profiles will see you on their grid as normal, and for the next hour you’ll show up for anyone using the Right Now filter while browsing the grid. Your Right Now post will also appear on the Right Now feed during your session, and if you opted to be shown on the map, your profile will appear on the map for other users near you.
While using Right Now, you can also publish an optional status specifying what you’re looking for. As with anything you post on Grindr, Right Now statuses and photos must follow our Community Guidelines, and all statuses will be reviewed by our moderation team. Please note that some personal information you provide may be considered sensitive, and you control what personal information you include in a status post. Upon approval, your status will be visible to everyone, appearing on your profile above your profile name and in the Right Now feed.
Right Now posts are ephemeral, and can’t be retrieved once they’ve expired.
Interacting with Right Now profiles
The Right Now feed will show all posts from everyone near you who is currently in a Right Now session, including their status if they included one. You can also filter the Right Now feed by hosting status, age, and/or position. Just tap on anyone’s post to send them a message, or tap on their profile icon to view their profile.
– The Right Now Map is a new feature currently being tested in select geographic areas. We hope to roll it out globally in the coming months. –
The Right Now Map shows users near you who are currently in a Right Now session, and who opted to be shown on the map during their session. Each user’s profile pin will be displayed in their approximate location on the map, based on the level of precision they selected. Like the Right Now Feed, the Map can be filtered by hosting status, age, and/or position.
On your grid, you’ll see “Right Now” along with the purple droplets emoji indicator on profiles that are currently in a Right Now session. Tapping on any of these profiles will also show you their Right Now status, if they chose to include one.
Updating your Right Now session
You can update your Right Now post at any time. To do so, just tap the Right Now button in the bottom right corner of the main Grid, the Right Now Feed, or the Map . This will allow you to add, remove, or update any of the items in your post (text status, hosting status, photo, or map options). Keep in mind that all updated Right Now statuses and photos will need to be reapproved by our moderation team to ensure they still meet our Community Guidelines.
Ending a Right Now session
You can toggle Right Now to “off” directly from your grid, from the Right Now feed, or by opening the side menu. This will remove your Right Now indicator and status (if you’ve posted one) – but note that doing so won’t extend the remaining time of your session, and your countdown timer will continue. It’s not possible to pause or extend your session without purchasing Right Now for another hour.
