Roam

With Roam, you can set your profile location to anywhere in the world for 1 hour. Folks in your destination will see your profile on their Grid as if you were really there, and vice versa.

Roam is a great way to chat and interact with folks in other places. Use Roam when you have upcoming travel plans, are considering a move, or just want to check out what (or who!) a new city or neighborhood has to offer. 😉

Roam is specifically designed to prioritize receiving inbound messages rather than sending outbound ones. You can receive unlimited messages and XTRA and Unlimited users can send unlimited messages, free users can initiate one free chat. 

How to Roam

To Roam:

1. 1. Open the side menu from your home screen, or head to Explore.
   2. Tap the Roam button on your desired destination. Note: You can Roam anywhere in the world, except for regions that have been excluded due to safety concerns for the LGBTQ community.
   3. Complete your purchase* to see your Roam destination (city and country).
   4. If you’re physically traveling to your Roam destination soon, set your arrival time – this time can be as soon as today, or as far out as 2 months. You won’t be able to edit this arrival time after your Roam session begins. 
   5. Your Explore tab will now show you profiles in your Roam destination. Returning to the main grid will show you profiles that are nearby your current location. For the 1 hour you’re Roaming, you’ll see a blue pin icon overlaid on your profile showing your arrival time. If you didn’t set an arrival time, it will simply say “Roaming.” Your arrival time will also be shown to anyone viewing your profile.

Just like that, you’ve Roamed! From your grid, you’ll see a countdown banner  of how much time remains in your 1-hour Roam session. You can switch back and forth between your destination and your current location by tapping Turn off Roam. Keep in mind your Roam timer will continue to run, even when you switch back to your current location. There is no way to pause your Roam session once it has begun.

*Currently, you can have only one active add-on (ie., Boost, Roam, Right Now, etc.) on your profile at a time. If you buy multiple add-ons, only the first purchase will be active on your profile, and you won’t receive the benefits of any additional add-ons you purchase.

How Roaming profiles appear

If you're viewing Roaming profiles:

On your Grid, you’ll see a blue pin icon overlaid on profiles that are currently Roaming to your neighborhood.

On a Roaming profile, you’ll see a blue pin icon and the word "Roaming" underneath their profile name.

On your Viewed Me page, you’ll see a blue pin icon on the profile of any Roamed profile that has checked out your profile.

If you're Roaming:

On your Viewed Me page, you’ll see everyone who viewed your profile during your Roam session. Anyone who checked out your profile while you were Roaming to their location will be indicated with a “via (Roam icon)” badge. If you tap to view their profile, their profile will say “Found via Roam.”
