Note: We're currently testing this feature, so it may not be available to you just yet -- My Tags is currently only available in select cities. If you’re reading this and would like to see My Tags in your city, feel free to get in touch with a city recommendation. That said, if you are seeing My Tags in the app, thanks for helping us make Grindr better by giving it a try.
With My Tags, you’re able to add up to 8 Tags to your Grindr profile, reflecting who you are. Adding Tags to your profile makes it searchable by other users, allowing folks to connect on Grindr more easily.
It’s much easier to break the ice when you can rely on common ground.
Adding Tags to your profile
There are a few ways to find and add Tags to your profile.
You can find the My Tags page when you’re editing your profile. Here, you can scroll through our collection of available Tags. Clicking on a tag and tapping ‘Save’ will add it to your profile. Expect to see new tag categories in the weeks following the initial release.
You can also search for Tags. Just type the Tag you’re looking for into the search bar. If it doesn’t appear, that means it’s not currently available, and you should feel free to suggest it as a new Tag (see below).
Searching for others using Tags
After adding at least one tag to your own profile, you’ll be able to search other profiles by the Tags they’ve added.
Clicking on a tag from another user’s profile will bring you to a search for that tag. We’ll then show you the profiles near you who’ve added those Tags to their profile. Keep in mind that even though we’ll show you the closest people to your location, it’s possible that they could still be pretty far away.
You can also search for tags by clicking on the magnifying glass icon on the main page. This will open a new page where you can search for tags either by typing them in, or by tapping on a word that appears in your search suggestions. Either way, you can pull up a selection of the nearest profiles to your area that have added the tag you’re searching for.
When you use the search page to find Tagged profiles, we will store your five most recent tag searches for you. If you don’t want this search history shown to you on the search page, feel free to click the X to remove any of these words. We do not store your search history in our system, so once your search history is deleted from your search interface, it’s gone forever.
Tags in common
If you have any Tags in common with the person you’re checking out, they will:
- Appear first on their profile, and
- Be highlighted in yellow
Removing Tags from your profile
To remove a Tag currently added to your profile, start by tapping on your profile and selecting “Edit profile.” Scroll down to tap on the My Tags section. Finally, tap on the Tag you’d like to remove.
Suggesting new Tags
We plan to add more Tags in the near future, and we’d love to hear what Tags would resonate with our community. To suggest Tags, just scroll to the bottom of the My Tags modal page and click “Suggest a Tag.”
A few things to keep in mind when suggesting new Tags:
- All suggestions must meet our Community Guidelines. Don’t be a jerk.
- Tags can be a maximum of 25 characters
- We don't allow Tags that begin with "no" (tell us who you are and what you're into, not what you don't want to see!)
