With My Tags, you’re able to add up to 10 Tags to your Grindr profile, offering you more options to describe who you are. Adding Tags to your profile makes it searchable by other users, allowing folks to connect on Grindr more easily. It’s much easier to break the ice when you can rely on common ground.
We recommend you use Tags to describe yourself, and use the search function to find what you're looking for. You can also continue to filter by the Tribes feature, or even use Tags to search through those Tribes (among many other things). We leave it up to you!
Keep in mind, if you find someone via searching a specific Tag and message them, they’ll see Found you via [insert Tag here] under your first message to them.
Feeling shy? Want to remain a little mysterious? Not ready to show your hand? No problem! You can always favorite their profile, and then message them outside of your Tag search.

How to add Tags to your profile
You can find the My Tags page when you’re editing your profile. Here, you can scroll through our collection of available Tags, organized by category. Clicking on a Tag will automatically save it to your profile.
Keep in mind that if you choose to add a Tag, users who search for that Tag will see your profile In their Tag search results.
How to remove Tags from your profile
To remove a Tag currently added to your profile, start by tapping on your profile and selecting “Edit profile.” Scroll down to tap on the My Tags section. Finally, tap on the Tag you’d like to remove, and it will be removed from your profile.
By removing a Tag from your profile, you will no longer be included in search results for that Tag.
How to search for Tags via Grid controls
You can search for folks with specific Tags via the Grid using Grid Controls.
Note: Keep in mind that even though we’ll show you the closest people to your location, it's possible that these folks may be far from you.
- Tap the Tags navigation bar at the top of the Grid.
- Select up to 3 Tags to filter users by.
- Exit the Tag filter selection screen after selecting Tag(s) to return to the Grid.
- You’ll see users with the Tags you selected appear on your grid
- The Tags button will turn yellow and the word “Tags” will be replaced with a count (#) of the number of Tags you have applied to your grid.
- Tapping on the active yellow Tags button will return you to the Tag filter selection.
Note: If you select more than 1 Tag, the Grid will only show profiles that match ALL of those Tags (ie. selecting the “bb” and “art” Tags means someone has to have both of those Tags to show in your search).
How to search for Tags via profiles
If you tap on a Tag from a profile, you’ll be brought to a Grid that displays all users near you who match that Tag.
Keep in mind, if you’ve changed your location and tap on a Tag from a profile, you’ll be brought to a Grid that displays all profiles nearest that location who match that Tag. The Grid will also include the name of the location and approximate distance from your current location.
Note: If you’ve changed your location you cannot filter the Tags grid.
Tags in common
If you have any Tags in common with the person you’re checking out, they will appear first on their profile, and be highlighted in yellow.
Tags search history and data retention
When you use the search page to find Tagged profiles, we will store your 8 most recent Tag searches for you. If you don’t want this search history shown to you on the search page, feel free to click the X to remove any of these words. We do not store your search history in our system, so once your search history is deleted from your search interface, it’s gone forever.
If you request to download your personal data from Grindr, your 8 most recent Tag searches will be included in your data export. Any Tags you've added to your profile will also be included.
How to suggest new Tags
To suggest a new Tag, scroll to the bottom of the My Tags page when editing your profile, and click “Suggest a Tag.”
A few things to keep in mind when suggesting new Tags:
- All suggestions must meet our Community Guidelines.
- Tags can be a maximum of 25 characters.
- We don't allow Tags that begin with "no" (tell us who you are and what you're into, not what you don't want to see).
