Note: My Tags is currently only available in select countries. It's also possible you'll have access to Tags temporarily, as we test the feature in different regions.
If you’re reading this and would like to see My Tags in your country, feel free to get in touch with a country recommendation. That said, if you are seeing My Tags in the app, thanks for helping us make Grindr better by giving it a try.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With My Tags, you’re able to add up to 8 Tags to your Grindr profile, offering you more options to describe who you are. Adding Tags to your profile makes it searchable by other users, allowing folks to connect on Grindr more easily. It’s much easier to break the ice when you can rely on common ground.
We recommend you use Tags to describe yourself, and use the search function to find what you're looking for. You can also continue to filter by the Tribes feature, or even use Tags to search through those Tribes (among many other things). We leave it up to you!
Keep in mind, if you find someone via searching a specific tag and message them, they’ll see Found you via [insert tag here] under your first message to them.
Feeling shy? Want to remain a little mysterious? Not ready to show your hand? No problem! You can always favorite their profile, and then message them outside of your tag search.

Adding Tags to your profile
You can find the My Tags page when you’re editing your profile. Here, you can scroll through our collection of available Tags. Clicking on a Tag and tapping ‘Save’ will add it to your profile.
Keep in mind that if you choose to add a Tag, users who search for that Tag will see your profile In their Tag search results.
Searching for others using Tags
Even if you choose not to add a Tag to your profile, you can still search for profiles via Tag search.
You can search for Tags by clicking on the magnifying glass icon on the main page. This will open a new page where you can search for Tags either by typing them in, or by tapping on a word that appears in your search suggestions. Either way, you can pull up a selection of the nearest profiles to your area that have added the tag you’re searching for.
Clicking on a tag from another user’s profile will also bring you to a search for that tag. We’ll then show you the profiles near you who’ve added those Tags to their profile. Keep in mind that even though we’ll show you the closest people to your location, it’s possible that they could still be pretty far away.
It's not currently possible to combine multiple Tags into one search.
Tags in common
If you have any Tags in common with the person you’re checking out, they will appear first on their profile, and be highlighted in yellow.
Removing Tags from your profile
To remove a Tag currently added to your profile, start by tapping on your profile and selecting “Edit profile.” Scroll down to tap on the My Tags section. Finally, tap on the Tag you’d like to remove.
By removing a Tag from your profile, you will no longer be included in search results for that Tag.
Tag search history and data retention
When you use the search page to find Tagged profiles, we will store your five most recent tag searches for you. If you don’t want this search history shown to you on the search page, feel free to click the X to remove any of these words. We do not store your search history in our system, so once your search history is deleted from your search interface, it’s gone forever.
If you request to download your personal data from Grindr, your 5 most recent Tag searches will be included in your data export. Any Tags you've added to your profile will also be included.
Suggesting new Tags
To suggest new Tags, just scroll to the bottom of the My Tags modal page found when editing your profile, and click “Suggest a Tag.”
A few things to keep in mind when suggesting new Tags:
- All suggestions must meet our Community Guidelines.
- Tags can be a maximum of 25 characters.
- We don't allow Tags that begin with "no" (tell us who you are and what you're into, not what you don't want to see).
Tags Glossary
You can check out all of our available Tags (and see what each one means) in our glossary here.
We plan to add new Tags requested by our community on a rolling basis, so be sure to check My Tags every so often for new options.
