Grindr uses GPS technology in your Android or iOS device to determine your location. Below you'll find troubleshooting steps for both Android and iOS. Follow the steps below if Grindr's got you in the wrong spot, or if the nearest person to you is not so close.

Android location troubleshooting
First, Force Stop Grindr.
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap Applications > Manage Applications (this will be labeled as Application Manager on some newer versions of the Android OS) > Grindr > Force Stop > Clear Cache.
- Then check your current location.
- Open Maps on your device.
- Update your current location.
- Now reset your location services.
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap Location.
- Uncheck and re-check the on/off option making sure to leave it 'on'.
- Open Grindr.
iOS location troubleshooting
First, Force Close Grindr (Apple iOS 8 + Users):
- From the Home screen, double-click the Home button to view the multitasking screen. On iPhone X and later, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to view the multitasking screen.
- Locate the Grindr window.
- Swipe your finger from the bottom to the top of the screen over the Grindr window.
- Restart your device.
- Open Grindr.
Then, check your current location:
- Open Maps on your device.
- Tap Current Location at the top right.
- Now, reset your location services.
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap Privacy, then Location Services.
- Toggle Location Services to off. Tap Turn Off.
- Restart your device.
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap Privacy, then Location Services.
- Toggle Location Services to on.
- Scroll down to Grindr and set Location Services for Grindr to While Using.
- Open Grindr.
Be sure to also check your data connection. When you're using a Wi-Fi network, location is determined by the network's IP address. Disable the Wi-Fi settings on your device and try using Grindr with only a mobile (4G, 5G) network connection.
- Then check your current location.

- Tap Location.

Location error message
If you are getting the error “To continue, turn on device location, which uses Google's location services", this is caused by the type of location settings applied to your device. To correct the error please follow these steps:
- Go to your device’s settings.
- Tap in Connections.
- Tap in Location.
- Tap in Locating Method.
- Change your location method to High Accuracy.
After you have changed your location service method to High accuracy, you will need to force quit and clear cache from Grindr as follows:
- Open your device Settings.
- Tap on Application Manager.
- Select Grindr.
- Tap on Force Stop / Close.
- Tap in Storage.
- Tap on Clear Cache.
- Open Grindr again.
Note: Your Grid may take a while to load again. Don’t be concerned, you can switch your networks from mobile to wifi or vice versa to attempt to connect again.
