Location error message
If you are getting the error “To continue, turn on device location, which uses Google's location services", this is caused by the type of location settings applied to your device. To correct the error please follow these steps:
- Go to your device’s settings.
- Tap in Connections.
- Tap in Location.
- Tap in Locating Method.
- Change your location method to High Accuracy.
After you have changed your location service method to High accuracy, you will need to force quit and clear cache from Grindr as follows:
- Open your device Settings.
- Tap on Application Manager.
- Select Grindr.
- Tap on Force Stop / Close.
- Tap in Storage.
- Tap on Clear Cache.
- Open Grindr again.
Note: Your Grid may take a while to load again. Don’t be concerned, you can switch your networks from mobile to wifi or vice versa to attempt to connect again.
"Maximum number of accounts" error message
If you see this error when you try signing up, it means that you have already created the maximum number of Grindr accounts you can have on this email address. Try logging into one of your previous accounts, or creating a profile under a new email address.
No internet connection - unable to refresh
If you are trying to refresh your Grid but are unable to and the error message "No internet connection - unable to refresh" appears on your device screen, the reason you could be seeing this is that your wifi or cellular network is not connected to the internet. To identify if it is either your network, device, or app please do a check if any of your other apps (e.g. App Store) are connecting to the internet.
If you can access other apps on your device without any issues, then please contact us here and let us know what you are experiencing.
Unable to refresh
This is another possible solution if you are wanting to refresh your grid and finding that you are unable to. If you are seeing the error message "Unable to Refresh", the possible reasons for this are the following:
- Using a VPN.
- Government censored regions.
- IP Blocks.
This can be easily corrected by the following steps:
- Deleting and reinstalling the app on your device (make sure you backup your chats first, or you'll lose them).
- If you are still experiencing the issue, then please contact us here.
Unable to refresh. Please try again later.
The different ways that error messages are presented are important information. If you are unable to refresh your Grindr Grid and are seeing the error message "Unable to refresh. Please try again later." the possible reason for this could be that the server's rate limit has been reached. Rate limiting is used to control the amount of traffic traveling to and from a network.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that could help you through this:
- Force Quit the app.
- Wait for approximately 30 minutes.
- Reopen Grindr.
Unsecure connection detected
You may encounter this error message when trying to access Grindr from a public wifi network: "Unsecure Connection Detected".
Keep in mind these types of wifi networks may ask for your social network account or email address in exchange for viewing content or performing a certain action (generally providing personal data to enable commercial contact).
To remove this message: Select "Retry Connection" and you will be redirected to your wifi settings. You will be able to utilize the wifi services once identified or you can simply turn off your wifi settings and proceed with your Data plan.
If none of the above works then try deleting and reinstalling the app on your device, but we suggest that you back up your chat history beforehand so you do not lose any messages. You will need to go back into your app store and re-download Grindr.
