If you are HIV positive and have an undetectable viral load, there’s good news: you can expect to stay healthy – and you can’t transmit the virus to anyone else when having sex. It can take several months after starting to take HIV meds for your viral load to become undetectable. Going regularly to your healthcare provider is important to make sure it stays that way. HIV drugs don’t protect against other STDs (condoms do!), so get tested for STDs every three months. Even though you’re undetectable and can’t infect your partner, you should still talk with them about your HIV status, and how you’re taking care of your health.
